At Birdsville the overgrown remains of the blaze mark on the tree where the advance party camped can be clearly seen.


The bare arid wide open scenery to
Birdsville like the view from the top of Big Red must still be very similar
to what the explorers experienced except for them there weere no roads or tracks
to follow or any other sign of European habitation.
William John may well have visited the rare Waddi trees that grow in the area
as he left a sample of their seed in his field books.


For us this was the furthest north we drove.
