Zinc Anti Corrosive

For Yanmar Diesel 2QM15 & Volvo Penta - MD7A, MD7A/110S

This posting is on behalf of Allan, who lives on Lake Macquarie, and does not use Facebook.

I have a couple of questions to ask, probably simple answers but I just want to check.

1. What is the correct oil and quantity for my Yanmar 2QM15 engine, last owner gave me Penrite HPR 20W HP60 Diesel oil to use.

2. Where would I buy an oil filter for the 2QM15.

3. Manual for Yanmar 2QM15 engine says there are 2 anodes located on the cylinder block. My friend has a Mark2 with a Volvo motor and it has anodes on the rudder and prop shaft. Seen by 24

In 10 minutes I had an answer from Jimmy. 20 minutes later Rob knocked on my door and handed me his notes on the questions, plus his service manual that I still have.

I have copied it all from Facebook, sent an answer and then made it into a page in the Forum of our web page.

1. That oil sounds to thick to me, the higher the numbers the thicker the oil, the second number (60) is the operating temperature thickness. Most diesels in Australian conditions use 15w-40, its very common and there all pretty good, just change it regularly. 20w-50 is OK for older worn engines.

Shaft and rudder anodes protect those parts from corrosion, anodes in your engine protect the engine from rusting inside the water jacket and must be changed also when they have wasted away 50% or more. They can be hard to find there locations but are usually mounted behind a bronze plug. Regards Jimmy

Hi Jimmy yes I use 15w-40 I just went around and gave Tom Wills the info he needed plus lent him my 2Qm15 manual.

Here is a link to the Yanmar 2QM15 service manual which includes service and maintenance in Chapter 14. This should tell you all, except local lubricant suppliers.

I have downloaded a copy of this manual and will retain it incase we have other queries. The file is nearly 15MG in size but I can email it to anyone should they need it.
