![]() Mr. Edward Charles O'Brien, Horticulturist and Dairy Farmer, Port Cygnet, was born in Deptford, England, in 1850, and came to Tasmania when only two years of age. After finishing his education he followed the sea for twelve years, and then purchased his present property, which consists of 40 acres, 15 being laid out as an orchard and the remainder utilised for dairying purposes. All the principal sorts of apples and pears are grown and exported to the London and Sydney markets. Mr. O'Brien has 13 acres of apple trees, 2 acres of pears, and about an acre of small fruits. He was married to Miss Emma Harvey, a daughter of Mr. Harvey, of Port Cygnet, twenty years ago, and has a family of ten children. Mr. O'Brien was recently elected a member of the Port Cygnet Fruit Board, and of the local Board of Health. | |
