Santa's Arrival in Town Prior to 25th

A wallaby is similar to a kangaroo only smaller

Christmas in Australia is within three days of the longest day of the year therefore we have long daylight hours with warm temperatures instead of short cold days with long cold nights.

I commenced this page in 1999 and have tried to think of the things that make a summer Christmas different from a winter Christmas. It was only when Sydney City decided to stage a large Christmas Parade in 2005 that I realised that there were events in every small and large town in Australia to celebrate the arrival of the Christmas season. Sydney are advertising their parade as the biggest summertime Christmas Pageant in the world.

Traditionally it has been each large department store has had its own Santa arrival either by horse drawn carriage or limo or helicopter landing on their roof.

Fire truck In the smaller country towns the local fire brigade truck transports Santa to most of the suburban streets with him dispensing sweets to the children as they go.

November 2005 Received an email which adds
Often in small towns Santa rides in police cars, divy vans (police drink driving vans) or as you said fire trucks.

December 2007 Received the following email from Sam.
Just love your site. Thought I'd send you a photo of the way Santa gets around in Caboolture, Queensland. The local Apex Club have an old fire engine and drive around the streets for about a week each year. Our children (6 and 8) look forward to it every year.

In other towns a local identity would lend their ute for a parade with Santa, possibly similar to the ute shown here. Description of a ute.

December 2007 - At the Cronulla (NSW) Surf Life Saving Club Nippers Party Santa's arrival caused quite a splash. A Coastal Patrol boat, about 25 feet in length, motored around to the front of the beach and stopped. Then Santa was seen standing on the deck and waving to the children. But alas he feel into the water and did not resurface. A few minutes later he was heard and seen on the balcony of the Club house. He was in dry clothes and good health and busy distributing sweets to the children.
In Australia, Santa can arrive in a rubber boat to hand out presents to budding surf lifesavers at the beach. Our granddaughter is in this lucky group. In Australia, Santa can arrive in a rubber boat to hand out presents to budding surf lifesavers at the beach.

Camel ride

December 2011 - Take5 magazine published an article about a shopping center manager in Alice Springs who had organised for Santa to arrive at the centre by camel. This arrival by camel has now been happening for about 14 years.

Many years ago camels were the only way to bring supplies to Alice Springs and after the advent of modern transport many camels were roaming wild in the desert, while some are on farms. For more information about camels at Alice Springs go to the Camel Cup site.

The average December maximum temperature for Alice Spring is 35 degrees Celsius. He certainly looks hot in this photo as he rides in with his two saddle-bags of toys.

If your community has a different method of transport for Santa's arrival, please email me the details for inclusion in this page.
