James Hemming Webb & George Henry Frederick Webb
14 January 2012
James and George Webb were brothers who arrived from London to Melbourne, Victoria in the 1850's. They were Government Shorthand Writers under Governor Latrobe.
George went on to study Law at Melbourne University and later became a judge of the Supreme Court Victoria. He has an entry in the Australian History of Biography. I have a large amount of information about them and their descendants, as my mother was Clare Webb (1913 -2011) and I also have gained a fair bit of information about their family in England.
They were great grandsons of Rev James Webb (1708 - 1782 ) who was a non-conformist minister at Hitchen Hertfordshire( 1738- 1758) and then Fetter Lane Independent Church London (1758 - 1782).
I have some details of his family. I am willing to share my info with interested parties and also if there is anyone out there who may be able to help me gather further details about the parents and ancestry in Spitalsfield London of the Rev, I would much appreciate it as I have come to a brick wall. I know he was born in Spitalsfield and was apprenticed as a weaver as his parents were in poor circumstances.
Looking forward to being part of the Australian Webb family.
