The aims for this get-together are:
- To celebrate the anniversary of the Burke and Wills Expedition
- To bring together and assist people who are researching family history that contains a "Wills"
- To locate descendents of members of the Burke and Wills Expedition.
Official Opening by Amanda Stone, Langridge Ward Councillor, City of Yarra.
Guest Speaker - David Dodd of the Royal Society of Victoria. David is Project Officer for the RSV, in charge of organising events for Burke and Wills 150th Anniversary. The RSV was the body that organised the expedition, chose it's personnel and raised the finance to send them on their way in August, 1860. He has news on the exciting events taking place for the commemoration, and also has some slides relating to the expedition.
Guest Speaker - Daniel Wilksch, Expedition and Official Records Officer of the Public Record Office Victoria will speak on records held by the PROV in relation to Burke and Wills expedition, and also on some of their more unknown holdings, in particular general correspondence series.
Guest Speaker - Frank Leahy, Associate Professor, Melbourne University. Frank will be speaking on the methods and accuracy of William Wills' navigation.
Display of family trees of the many Wills families in Australia, including those of W. J. Wills the explorer and Tom Wills the AFL footballer / cricketer. Along with any photos or memorabilia that descendants may wish to display. It is also a chance to get together and exchange information.
TIME: 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
We will try to keep registration fees to $10.00 per adult and children over 16 years, younger children free.
